A partner at the Southern California law firm of Peters & Freedman, L.L.P., Stephen M. Kirkland received his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Attorney Stephen Kirkland graduated cum laude from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he was a Law Review member and received the following awards:

  • American Jurisprudence Award for contracts
    The American Jurisprudence Award (AmJur award) is given to law school students who receive the highest grade in a course section.
  • Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in the fields of family law and criminal procedure
    The Witkin Award is presented by the Witkin Legal Institute to recognize academic excellence in California law schools.
  • CALI Award for civil motion practice
    The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) award is presented to those law students for superior performance in the classroom.

Attorney Kirkland joined Peters & Freedman, L.L.P. as a paralegal prior to becoming a member of the California State Bar.  In his eight years as a paralegal with Peters & Freedman, L.L.P., Attorney Kirkland worked in the assessment collection department, and the construction defect department.
